For a State Agency
The Problem: Facing big budget cuts, understaffed and overworked, a critical department was developing a reputation for not being able to get work done.
How We Helped: First things first: understand what deadlines were looming, then figure out the work that had to be done to meet those deadlines. We designed and implement a simple master calendar for new managers that gave them a grasp of the ebb and flow of work. Then we documented their current state processes and identified gaps, overlaps, missing information and pain points. From this we identified several simple actions that would ease the burden, improve the quality of the work the organization was doing, and enable staff to meet those critical deadlines.
Results: Because we actively involved staff in the process, they moved from resisting all change to helping identify ways to work more effectively. And by coaching a key manager and one of her direct reports, they were confident they could execute our prioritized list of action items. Armed with a list of quick wins, the new manager was able to implement critical changes quickly.
For a Rapidly Growing Consulting Firm
The Problem: This IT consultancy was growing so fast they couldn't deliver all the work their clients wanted. They were leaving money on the table, and originally turned to Douglas Partners to provide assistance developing training programs for their clients.
How We Helped: We worked closely with the consultants to develop training for their clients. But at the same time, we shared tools and templates, then coached the consultants on how to accurately estimate effort, design and develop training for future clients.
Results: Happy clients--they loved our training. Happy executives--we showed them how to increase their revenue stream. And happy consultants--they had tools to help them plan and successfully training programs that won client kudos.
